30 Days of Yoga

In April I did the 30 Day Yoga Challenge at DoYouYoga.com. From April 1st till the 30th I did a short 10 to 20 minute yoga session every day.

The first week was a little rough. I realized I had lost all my flexibility and balance. This was a little discouraging. I have done yoga on and off for the last 10 years and it was disappointing to realize I could no longer bend over and touch my toes. However by the end of the first week my finger tips could once again graze the mat.

As the days went on it got easier and easier to get to the mat everyday. It just became part of my morning routine.

By day 30 I have gained quite a bit of flexibility and by balance has increased. My body feels a little stronger, I'm not nearly as stiff when I get up in the morning and my mood feels lighter. A daily practice has really helped with stress, I'm sleeping better, I have more energy and I find myself making better food choices.

I think making an effort to take care of yourself, better yourself even, can have a trickling effect on many things in your life.

Now that April is over, I have been kept up my yoga practice 5 days a week and am making the weekends optional.

Despite all the benefits I've received over the last month the greatest is the completing a challenge like this. I feel a real sense of accomplishment to start this and see it through for 30 days.

What challenges have you completed?

P.S. Although weight loss was never a goal, I did lose 7 pounds.
