Memory Lane Monday 3

Who: Evan and Mia

When: Christmas 2012

Where: Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, Frankenmuth

What: We had brought the kids to see Santa a few times that year and I was unable to get a picture where both kids were looking at me and both happy. It was a Christmas miracle to get this beautiful picture of them together on Santa's lap. This is one of my very favourites. It was also a really great family weekend away in Frankenmuth.

Memory Lane Monday 2

Who: Evan

When: Spring 2009

Where: Greenway Ontario, in our backyard

What: It was one of the first nice warm days an we were outside playing in the backyard and taking some random pics. Jake was climbing the tree in the back and Evan wanted to as well. Jake picked him up  and sat him on the lowest branch. I just happen to catch this photo of him looking up at the sky with the most angelic face. This is one of my favourite pics of Evan. It's hard to believe how much he has grown in such a short time.

appointed to the senate.

Why: Jake was in Ottawa for work and we took some time to walk around the city. We both love Ottawa. It is a beautiful place. Walking past this statue, it screams photo op.

A Vlog Full of Threads: Week 8&9

A week of sewing followed by a week at the beach. Summer time!

Little Lace Dresses

A couple weeks ago we had Mia Baptized. It was a beautiful ceremony. I wasn't sure how she would react to having the Priest poor water on her head but she was an angel, and looked the part I might add. I have never made Mia a dress before, besides a Halloween costume, and was so excited to make her a lace and white gown for her big day.

While I was in little lace dress mode I banged out a couple of flower girl dresses complete with purple fabric flowers.  Its so much fun to dress little people.
Out of the 3 little girls wearing these dresses I had one who wouldn't put it on, ( that was Mia), one who was so shy she didn't say a word and the other was so excited she just couldn't contain herself.
Definately looking forward to some more little poeple projects.

Town Crier

I always enjoy the opportunity to flex my costuming muscle and I was given said opportunity in the way of a Town Crier costume.

A client said she was going to an event and wanted to go all out. She had the jacket, hat and the ever important bell, and was in need of the rest of the outfit.
She left me with a few reference pictures and a colour scheme and the rest was up to me.
After a quick trip to Fabricland I found the perfect fabric on the "ends" table. I was able to score the fabric needed for $15. I love scoring a good deal for my clients.
The blouse was a thrift store find and fit perfect after adding a lace cravat.
I loved working on this project and what made it so much fun was the enthusiasm of my client. I feel truly blessed as I have worked with some really great people and I can add this lady to the list!
For all you makers out there, Does an enthusiastic client not make the work super exciting?

Purple Challis

Finished this beauty and it is headed down south for a wedding. Made of rayon challis, as soft as silk and incredibly lightweight. I have a very happy client who can't wait to dance the night away in this beauty.

My client wanted a purple that looked really great with gold, so we set it off with some gold buttons.

Weekend Walk

After a long work week, we took our kids out for the first hike of the year on our local trails. We are so fortunate to have a beautiful conservation area and park very close to home. It's a great way for the kids (and the dog) to just run. Of course after walking for so long (as the kids puts it) we spent some time at the park so the kid could enjoy the equipment. They can't wait for the splash pad to open!
The Kid is always leading the pack. Note the jersey.
GO HAWKS!

LOON

JD, the Kid and little Miss

She wondered where the water was. Still too cold for the splash pad. :(

Caught a pic of the Loon taking off into the sunset.

A Threaded Gift

A few months ago (yes months, im a little behind on the blogging) I reveived a wonderful surprisein the mail.

I had signed up with Whipstitch's Sewing Buddies group in January of 2014  and was paired with a fabulous lady from the United States. We emailed back and forth over the year and then this beautiful hand embroidered and personalized wall hanging arrived on my door step. I do not do hand embroidery and the work she put into this is down right amazing. I am in love with it and have hung it on the wall in my shop so all my clients can admire it, and they do!
Thank you Rose for such a thoughtful gift.

Work in Progress Wednesday

What am I working on?

I am finishing a custom gown. Purple challis boat neck gown with a cut out back. A few alterations are needed since its last fitting and then it's all about adding those finishing touches. I can't wait to share the finished protect.

$1.50 Thrifty Pillows

This weekend while my son was at his piano lesson I wandered into the Thrift Store down the street and looked around. I picked up a few little odds and ends, how can I resist a 50 cent candle holder? One little thing I got was a large square of brocade fabric found in a pile of table cloths. At $1.50 it was a steal and I was sure I could do something with it.

I have 2 throw pillows that have been taking up space. They had come with a bedding set I no longer owned and I wanted to cover them and place them in the living room.  This seemed like the perfect project for my $1.50 piece of brocade.

had just enough fabric to cover both pillows.

If you are a thrift shopper, keep your eyes open to the possibilities of fabric use. Curtains, tablecloths, etc.. can be turned into something new and great.

Happy 2015!

Hello Everyone! Happy 2015!
I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season. I had a very fulfilling holiday season. We had great family Christmases with my family and JD's family. We had a great visit with our friends for New Years and we had some much needed family time. With JD being a shift worker and the kid in school we are finding our free time doesn't always line up. We had 7 days of the 4 us spending all our time together. It was AMAZING!

Of course after all that family time we have now retired to our separate corners and are now back to a schedule. Being the New Year, YAY 2015, I have altered the schedule to better suit new plans! What new plans you ask? We are Opening, filling and maintaining a new Etsy shop filled with embroidered goods, I am wanting to do more video updates and maybe a few tutorials and tips will be in there, I have a scrap bin that is overflowing and in need of projects being made, I want to do more fashion sketching as I am in need of some serious practice because I (for lack of a better word) suck, I want to take some online courses..... I'm sure there is more but that is a start......and feels like a lot.

Before all of that starts my shop needs some organizing. The shop is always a catch all for the "Christmas Chaos", so when its all over I am left with a huge mess to clean up. It has taken me a few days to weed through the mess but it is finally feeling like a working space again. Whew!

So, Happy January! I would love to hear about your plans for this coming year so please leave a comment.

Happy Sewing
